{"id":1374,"date":"2013-10-24T13:36:03","date_gmt":"2013-10-24T13:36:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.synergita.com\/?p=1374"},"modified":"2013-10-24T13:36:03","modified_gmt":"2013-10-24T13:36:03","slug":"performance-management-helps-in-succession-planning","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newtest.synergita.com\/blog\/performance-management-helps-in-succession-planning\/","title":{"rendered":"How does Performance Management System help Succession Planning?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Succession planning is for identifying and grooming talent to enable them to take up next level of responsibilities.\u00a0 For example, in an organization having project managers and project director, it is better to identify few project managers and groom them towards project director.\u00a0 As and when there is a need for project director, you can move one of the project manager to be the director.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">It is important to do this succession planning affront for several important reasons:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Keep the cost low.&nbsp; Hiring from outside is always going to\n     be expensive and difficult.&nbsp; Grooming some one internally will always\n     keep the cost low &amp; also will help in smoother transition as this\n     person would know the importance, responsibilities, organization culture,\n     etc. already.<\/li><li>Grooming someone internally will provide better career planning\n     for individuals.&nbsp; It sets targets for each person and also help them\n     to move up in their career.&nbsp; Lot more job satisfaction and morale\n     improvement.<\/li><li>Will keep the attrition low as everyone would want to move up\n     in their careers.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Succession planning consists of the following steps:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Step 1: Identify the set of people at a level who\nneed to be groomed to the next level.&nbsp; Leadership potential assessment can\nbe done to find out people who have the relevant competencies as well as the\nessential leadership qualities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Step 2: Defining the set of responsibilities for\nthe next level and coming up with the training plan for the individuals to take\nup these responsibilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Step 3:&nbsp; Assigning these responsibilities\nand monitoring them<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once someone is ready, as soon as the real\nopportunity arises, you can easily move the person to the next level.&nbsp;\nIdentifying and getting them is a key.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How can a performance management system help to identify deserving employees in succession planning?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.synergita.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Performance management\nsoftware<\/strong><\/a> will be designed to produce reports from which the\nmanagement can choose&nbsp;the set of people who have good potential and\nachievement history.
